High water damaged harbour facilities at Semarang according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 15 June 1932

An item reported that the unusual high water level damaged the facilities in the harbour of Semarang, Dutch East Indies where water flooded the offices of the harbour police and the Prauwenveer. Within 30 minutes the water raised with 0,4 metres above the normal water level with as result that the dug drydock of the Landsbaggerbedrijf [Government dredging service] in which 2 boats were docked was filled with water. Storages and warehouses were also partly flooded, damaging the stores and causing large financial losses. Another newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 27th June confirmed that it was a dug dock closed by a door and then pumped empty. Normally was the water level 5 centimetres below the threshold but it raised now to around 30 centimetres above the door. The dock was filled within 10-15 minutes. The boats docked at that moment were the tug Piet of the Landsbaggerbedrijf and the motorboat Sapoedi of the harbourmaster. Both boats immediately started floating and were undamaged.
