American steamship Atlantus 1918-1926


Concrete built. Launched by Liberty Shipbuilding Company, Brunswick, Georgia, USA on 5 December 1918, commissioned in 1919, used as troop transport for returning American soldiers from Europe, decommissioned and laid up a scrap yard In Virginia in 1920, acquired by colonel Jesse Rosenfeld who wanted to use her and 2 of her sister ships in making a ferry dock, towed to Cape May was she wrecked on 8 June 1926 off the coast of Sunset Beach after a storm broke her moorings. Salvage efforts failed.

Gross register tonnage 2,391 tons with as dimension of 79,2 metres (between perpendiculars) x 17,7 x 8,7 metres or 259.10 x 45 x 22 feet. With a 3-cylinder steam engine delivering 1.520ihp was her speed 10,5 knots.
