Southern Railway Company ordered railway ferry according to the Dutch magazine Schip en Werf dated 16 December 1932

An item reported that the Southern Railway Company decided to found a railway ferry for the British Channel for which 3 ferries were to be built and completed in 1934. The line was especially meant for transport stores between Dover, England and probably Dunkirk, France and with limited passengers accommodation.
