Polish tug Zbyszko active between the Polish harbours Kozle and Wroclaw according to a CIA report dated 25 February 1953


An item reported that the Polish tug Zbyszko (1) was active on the route between the Polish harbours Kozle and Wroclaw. She was purchased in the Netherlands between 1948-1949. Her crew numbered 7 men.

According to a contract signed between the Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw Export Centrale, Rotterdam, Netherlands and the N.V. Koninklijke Maatschappij De Schelde, Vlissingen, Netherlands as result of the treaty between the Netherlands and Poland dated 18 December 1946 was the shipyard to built 3 single screw steam tugs with a horsepower of 350hip for the building costs of each ƒ 354.839,99. The dimensions are then given as 26,50-28,00 x 5,70 (thrushes changed in 5,94)-5,76 (maximum beam altered in 6,00) x 1,30 (with 10 ton colas and boiler willed with water) x 2,1 metres. The machinery consisted of 1-250ihp triple expansion steam engine and a boiler with a heating surface of 83 square metres. The Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw Export Centrale acted as an intermediary between Dutch shipyards and the Polish organisation Polimex (Polsike Towarzystwo Eksporto-Importowe Maszyn i Marzedzi), Warszawa, Poland. Built at the Ysselwerf Fa. Byker, Gorinchem, Netherlands with yard number 113 (Kon. Mij. De Schelde yard number 264), contract signed on 10 July 1947, ordered on 30 April 1947, laid down on 15 May 1948, launched on 30 December 1948, official trial on 2 May 1949 and delivered on 12 May 1949.
