Greece buying Italian build armoured cruiser Georgios Averof according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1910 No. 1

Pisa-class

An item reported that recently the Greek government signed a contract with the shipyard Orlando at Livorno, Italy to purchase the armoured cruiser (a sister ship of the Pisa) yet under construction.(1) Together with the replacement of the guns of the 3 ships of the Pisa-class costs 23.768.844 francs to be paid in 5 terms, the first at the signing of the contract, the last term at the delivery of the ships. The armoured cruiser was to be livered within 9 months, for an earlier delivery was a bonus available. The millionaire Averof g(2)ave 7 million drachmen to pay the first term and the ship was to be named after him. The minister of Finance presented the parliament with a law proposal for another 5 million drachmen needed to pay for building torpedo boats and purchase of ammunition.
