Italian battleships Lepanto and Italia converted into station ships according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1912 no. 1

An item reported that the aged Italian battleships Lepanto (1) and Italia (2) laid up in the arsenal at La Spezia were converted for use as station ships in the waters of Tripoli or Cyrenaica, Libya to support if needed the army.

1. Of the Italia-class designed by Benedetto Brin, consisting of the Italia and Lepanto, preceded by the Caio Duilio-class and succeeded by the Ruggiero di Lauria-class. Laid down by Cantiere navale fratelli Orlando, Livorno, Italy on 4 November 1876, launched on 17 March 1883, completed on 16 August 1887, training ship 1902-1910, depot ship 1910-1912, stricken on 26 May 1912, temporarily reinstated on 13 January 1913, finally stricken on 15 January 1914 and sold to be broken up on 27 March 1915.
2. Of the Italia-class designed by Benedetto Brin, consisting of the Italia and Lepanto, preceded by the Caio Duilio-class and succeeded by the Ruggiero di Lauria-class. Laid down by Regio Cantiere di Castellammare di Stabia, Naples, Italy on 3 January 1876, launched on 29 September 1880, completed on 16 October 1885, training ship 1909, floating battery 1915, converted into a grain carrier December 1917-June 1918, temporarily serving as grain carrier, stricken on 16 November 1921 and broken up.
