The Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 31 March 1938 reported the expected visit at Tandjong Priok, Dutch East Indies by the French submarines Acheron (1) and Fresnel (2) between Thursday 7 and 12 April. The Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 5 April reported the arrival that morning. Both submarines left on 20 October 1937 Toulon via Post Said, Djibouti, Colombo and Sabang (3) towards Saigon where they stayed for some months participating in maneuvers afterwards cruising during 35 days along the coastline of Indo Chine. Supreme commander was lieutenant Brosset-Heckel, second commanding officer of the Fresnel was lieutenant Magin d‘Ouine with the Acheron commanded by lieutenant Boyer-Ressès. The boats were launched in 1929 with a tonnage of 1.500 tons, a length of 100 metres, diving depth 80 metres and a crew consisting of 70 men (5 officers, 15 petty officers and 50 sailors). The Sumatra Post dated 5th added that the submarines arrived 2 days earlier than expected due to changing plans. De Sumatra Post dated 11 April reported the intended departure back to Europe the next morning. The Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 16 April reported a departure on Tuesday arriving on Thursday at Emmahaven intending to leave on next Tuesday.
