American design for a flight deck cruiser CF-2 dated 31 January 1940
The design was made on behalf of the General Board as a result of the final efforts to design such type of ship, but was however never realized. Displacement 12.200 (standard)-14.560 (trials) tons and as dimensions 640 (waterline) x 67 (waterline) x 22 (trial displacement) feet. With a horsepower pf 100.00 shp was her speed while with a speed of 15 knots she had a range of 10.000 nautical miles. The armament consisted of 2x2-15,2cm/6” cal 47 guns (one turret fore and one after), 2x2-12,7cm/5” cal 38 dual purpose guns, 16-2,78cm/1.1” anti aircraft machine guns, 8-12,7 mm/0.50 anti aircraft machine guns and she could take 36 scout bombers with her. The armour consisted of a main belt with a thickness of 3.6”, 4” thick transverse armour BHDS and a 2.5” thick protective deck. The gun turrets were protected by 1.25” (rear)-2” (top)-1.5-3” (sides)-6.5” (face plate), the barbettes by 5”, the second bat. mounts and handling RMs by 50, armoured pilot house by 30 (tube)-40 (top)-40 (sides)-60 (top) and other control spaces by 30-50.
