Japanese whaling factory ship Kyokuyo Maru 1938-1943 (1946)
Laid down by Kawasaki Dockyard Co. Ltd., Kobe for Kyokuyo Hogei K.K., Tokyo, Japan on 7 January 1938, launched on 28 June 1938, completed on 5 October 1938, requisitioned by the Imperial Japanese navy on 17 November 1941, returned to owners on 31 August 1943, requisitioned again by the navy on 1 September 1943 to be used as auxiliary transport/refueling ship, grounded off Amami-O-Shima on 19 September 1943, abandoned on 28 September 1943, efforts to salvage stopped, stricken from the Navy List on 15 December 1944, several times bombed by American aircraft and even torpedoed by an American submarine and broken up in 1946. At least armed with 1-12cm gun. Diesel machinery supplying 1.560 nhp allowing a speed of 12knots/138rpm-15 knots/155rpm. With 1.150 tons fuel oil bunker capacity a range of 15.600 nautical miles with a speed of 13 knots. Call sign JQFM. Gross register tonnage 17.549 (1939)-17.548 (1938) tons, net register tonnage 13,763 (1939)-13,875 (1938) tons and as dimensions 537.0 x 74.0 x 48.8 x 12.6 (light)-34.6 (loaded) feet. Oil carrying capacity 140.000 barrels (42 galleons).
