Of the Yavuz-class, German MEKO 200 design, succeeded by Barbaros-class. Laid down by Gölcük Naval Shipyard, Kocaeli 24 April 1987, launched on 22 July 1988 and commissioned on 21 July 1988. Displacement 3.030 tons and as dimensions 110,50 x 13,25 x 3,94 metres or 362.53 x 43.47 x 12.93 feet. Machinery consists of 4 MTU 20V 1163 diesel engines supplying via 2 shafts 30.000hp allowing a speed of 27 knots and with a speed of 20 knots a range of 4.000 nautical miles. Crew numbers 180 men including 29 officers. With hangar and platform for 1 AB 212 anti submarine warfare helicopter, armed with 2 Mk 141 quad-pack Launchers of 8 RGM-84 Harpoons, 1 Mk21 Guided Missile Launching System for 16 RIM-7 Sea Sparrows, 1-12,7cm/5” /54 gun, 3-2,5cm Oerlikon Contraves Sea Zenith CIWS systems and 2x3-32/38cm/12.75” Mk43 torpedo tubes.
