American whaler Jireh Swift visited Monganui, New Zealand according to the New Zealand newspaper Daily Southern Cross dated 26 June 1857

An item reported the arrival at Monganui, New Zealand on 19 January of the American whaler Jireh Swift of 454 tons from New Bedford, master W[illiam] Earl 200 barrels whale 54 barrels sperm, left on 2 February homeward bound.(1) Built at Dartmouth, USA in 1853, 454 7/95 tons and as dimensions 122.9 x 28.7 x 14. 3 1/2 feet, 2 decks, 3 masts, square stern, no galleries and a billethead, reregistered on 7 May 1857, owners Jireh Swift Jr. and Frederick S. Allen 8/32, Jireh Swift 8/32, Olivor Crocker and George O. Crocker 4/32, Benjamin B. Covell 2/32, James Henry Howland 2/32, Abraham Delano and Allon Case 2/32, Joseph Clark 2/32, Pardon Tillinghast 3/32, Heirs of Samuel G. Hudson 1/32, New Bedford.(2)
