Russian relocating submarine chasers to the Black Sea according to the Secret Admiralty Weekly Intelligence Summary Nr. 42 for the week ending 22 October 1921


An item reported that the Soviet Union transferred 12 submarine chasers (Istra-Biteli) which were of American design from Astrakhan [upper part Volga Delta] to Novorossisk [Black Sea] under sumpreme command of lieutenant Okolotin. His headquarters were located near the main post office. The submarine chasers were divided over 2 divisions. The 1st division consisted of the Bezpokoiny, Bezuprechny, Bezstrashny, Bezshumny, Bravy, Byedovy. Their speed was 22 kmots and the armament included 1-4.7cm Hotckiss gun and 2 machine guns; the Bravy and Byedovy also 1 torpedo. The 2nd division included the Letuchi, Likhoi, Lovki, Legki, Silny and Smely. Speed 22 knots and an armament including 1-3.7cm Hotchkiss gun and 2 machine guns.

1. There were several submarine chasers built in the USA for the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
