New regulations for ships visiting Batum, Georgia according to the Weekly Intelligence Summary No. 20 for the week ending 20 November 1920

An item reported that the government of Georgia issued the order No. 14 dated 22 October 1920 dealing with the commercial harbour of Batoum with a fine of 100,000-500,000 roubles when the regulations were violated. Without exception were ships to wait in the roads until she were examined inspected by the Customs service and the passengers’ papers checked. Between 6 p.m.-7 a.m. were the ships keep a distance of 4 fathoms from the wharfs with the gangways removed and all loading and unloading cargo or embarking passengers stopped. Infammable stores like kerosene were only permitted to store during daytime with a maximum of 2 hours on the wharfs. The regulations included foreign warships visiting the petroleum harbour for more than 8 hours. And finally commanders and agents of ships which wanted to leave the harbour within a hour after their arrival had to inform the Port Administration’s officers with detailed reports.
