An item reported that more as 100 American aircraft from aircraft carriers attacked on 10 March Japanese ships in the Salamaua-Lae area. Except for one Japanese aircraft there was just some resistance from anti aircraft guns. The results at Lae were that 3 transports (of which one of 15,000 tons) with a large number of troops embarked were sunk or beached, one cruiser hit by 6-50 pound bombs was set in fire, 1 cruiser hit by 1-1,000 pound bomb blew up and probably sunk, 1 destroyer hit by 1-500 bomb lost it stern, 1 destroyer hit by 1-500 pound bomb was set on fire and one minelayer set on fire while at Salamaua 2 around 10,000 ton transports were hit, one sunk and one set on fire with the loss of just one plane.
