An item reported the loss due to an explosion of the Brazilian ship Bapendy transporting troops in the night of 15-16 August off Bahia, Brazil. Cause of explosion unknown. In the same area were recently 3 passenger ships and a freighter -all Brazilian- lost however unknown what causes the losses. As a result were the anti-Axis feelings in Brazil strongly increased. The J.I.C. commented that there was no reliable information available about activities of enemy submarines but surface raiders were not to be excluded. As weapons were torpedoes or mine used.
