British 3rd class cruiser HMS Philomel visited Tandjong-Priok, Dutch East Indies in 1913

The Jaarboek van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeemacht 1913-1914 reported that the British 3rd class cruiser HMS Philomel (1) visited Tandjong-Priok, Dutch East Indies between 2-4 November 1913. The Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 3 November reported her arrival at Tandjong Priok underway from Singapore towards New Zealand. Commanding officer was G.N. Ballard. De Preanger-bode dated 7 November reported the departure to Port Darwin on 4 November.

1. Pearl-class cruiser, preceded by Barham-class succeeded by Apollo-class, laid down by HM Naval Dockyard, Plymouth, England on 9 May 1889, launched on 28 August 1890, commissioned in 1890, depotship since 1917, training ship since 1921, decommissioned and handed over to the Royal New Zealand Navy in 1941, decommissioned in 1947 and sunk at Coromandel on 6 August 1949.

2. George Norman Ballard (17 January 1874-1 January 1951), retired in the rank of captain on 15 October 1922, appointed as commander officer of the Philomel on 19 September 1911.
