Dutch Greenland whalers Christoffel and Mattheus returned home according to the Dutch newspaper Oprechte Haerlemsche courant dated 4 August 1685

An item dated dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 3 August reported that the Greenland whalers Christoffel and Mattheus in 1684 stuck in the ice and stayed in the winter at Greenland arrived at Middelburg, Netherlands manned with crew members of whalers from Zeeland. They seemed to had a rough time, one men killed by an ice bear other heavily wounded.
