Russian diesel-electric attack submarine Narodovolyets (D2) 1929- still existing

Part of the Dekabrist-class or Series I, preceded by Bars-class, succeeded by Lennets-class, partly based on Italian  information. Laid down by the Ordzhonikidze Yard [Baltic Shipyard], Leningrad, Russia on 5 March 1927, launched on 19 May 1929, commissioned on 11 October 1931,active in the Second World War, for instance torpedoed and sunk on 14 October 1942 the German cargo ship Jacobus Fritzen near Ystad, served as training ship at Kronstadt, Russia between 1956-1987, decommissioned on 20 June 1956, stricken on 5 March 1987, reconstruction on the shore completed in 1989 and since 1994 open as museum ship at St. Petersburg, Russia.

Double hull. Displacement 933 (surfaced)-1354 (submerged) tons and as dimensions 76.00 x 6.5 x 3.80 metres or 294.4 x 21 x 12. Feet. Propulsion consisted of 2-1,100 hp MAN/Kolomna diesel engines, 2-525hp PG-20 electric motors, 2-50hp electric creeping motors and 60DK storage batteries allowing with the 2 shafts and 3-bladed screws a speed of 14 (surfaced)-9 (submerged) knots and a surfaced range of 3,600 nautical miles/14 knots/7,500 nautical miles/9 knots and submerged 132 nautical miles/2 knots. Test diving depth 90 metres/295 feet. Her crew numbered 53 men. Armament consisted of 8-53.3cm/21” torpedo tubes (6 bow 2 aft), 1-10cm 51 cal deck gun, 1-4.5cm cal 46 K-21 anti aircraft gun and 1-7.62 mm machinegun.
