Part of Carola-class built for service in the German colonial empire preceded by Bismarck-class succeeded by SMS Nixe. Laid down by Kaiserliche Werft, Kiel, Germany in February 1882, launched on 7 Feburary 1885, commissioned in October 1886, decommissioned in June 1895, floating battery 1904-1907, stricken on 27 May 1907 and broken up.
