Preliminary design for an American scout cruiser dated April 1915

Design prepared for General Board discussions what the desired characterics were for such cruisers, adapted early April from design No. 112. Dimensions 700 (waterline) x 60 (waterline) x 16.0 feet. Block coefficient .546, longitudinal coefficient .607. Turbine propulsion with 4 boiler rooms, horsepower 33,700 ehp at maximum speed of 32.5 knots. Range 12,000 nautical miles/0 knots and oil capacity sufficient for 25,000 nautical miles/10 knots in emergency condition. Accommodation for38 officers and 524 men with berthing and messing facilities for another 1,000 men. Launching catapult on quarter deck for 6 aircraft. Armament 10-15.24cm/6” (2x1&3x2) quick firing guns and 4-7.62cm/3” anti aircraft guns. Main side belt armour 20’6”extreme width)-5.0 (depth below water line) 4” thickness). Total thickness of protective deck 60.
