An item reported that air reconnaissance revealed that at the harbour of St. Nazaire, France the seaward lock gate was missing and the lock flooded caused by the combined attack between 27-28 March.(1)
Note
1. The so-called St.Nazaire Raid was executed on 28 March by the Royal Navy and British Commandos and as a result could the Normandie dry dock during the rest of the Second World War not be operated. The obsolete destroyer HMS Campbell built in 1918-1919 as the USS Buchanan was deliberately blown up to destroy the dock.
