A strong support by the government and active participation by the industry in Japan resulted in a number of ideas for nucelar-propelled merchant ships. At the Second Geneva Conference in 1958 were plans for a submarine tanker and an emigrant ship presented. The in the end of 1957 founded Nuclear Ship Specialists Committee presented the following design of a 45,000 ton nuclear-proprelled tanker (three islander) with as dimensions 216.5 (between perpendiculars)-225.0 (over al)l x 30.2 (moulded) x 12.7 (moulded)-11.3 (full load) meters, 29,400 tons gross tonnage, 45,200 tons deadweight and a full load displacement of 60.450 tons. Speed 16.8 (service)-17.8 (maximum) knots. Crew numbered 68 men.Type reactor PWR, reactor output Mw(t) 79, number of main engines (steam turbines) 2 and 9,000 (normal)-10,000 (maximum) hp rating.
