British Admiralty interested in smaller battleships in 1930

The United Kingdom asked at the London Conference to reduce the battleship strenghts of the participating countries although without disturbing the equilibrium agreed at the Washington Conference. The British Admiralty informed her cabinet that she favoured to limit the displacement to 25,000 in stead of 35,000 tons, 30.48cm/12” in stead of 40.64cm/16” and lengtening the age from 20 to years before replacement was allowed. However nothing of this was said in the Conference.(1)
