HMS Example. Archer-class P2000-type patrol and training vessel. United Kingdom-flagged, MMSI 235009890 and call sign GABA. Launched by Watercraft Shoreham By Sea in 1985, required in 1994 by the British Royal Navy from the Royal Naval Auxiliary Service (RNXS). Attached to the Northumbrian University Royal Naval Unit (URNU), training students at Durham, Northumbria, Teesside and Sunderland universities. Homebase HMS Callipe, Gateshead. Displacement 54 tons and as dimensions 20,8 x 5,8 x 1,8 metres. Rolls Royce diesels supplying via 2 shafts 1.590 bhp allowing a speed of 14 knots although the hull is designed for a maximum speed of 45 knots for which the horsepower is lacking with the original machinery placed. Range 550 nautical miles. Crew 18 (training)-12 (operational) men. Armament if needed 1-2cm Oerlikon cannon and 3 general purpose machine guns.
HMS Smiter. Of the Archer-class. Laid down and launched in 1985 at Watercraft Marine Ltd, Shoreham, completed on 22 January 1986 and commissioned on 4 September. Until 11 October 1990 part of the Clyde Division of the Royal Naval Reserve, next handed over to the Univeristy Royal Naval Unit (URNU) of Glasgow, Scotland and since September 2010 used by the Oxford University Royal Naval Unit as training vessel. Displacement 49-54 tonnes and as dimensions 20,8 x 5,8 x 1,8 metres. Or 68’3”x 19’x 5’11”Speed maximum 13 knots. Range 550 nautical miles. Homeport HMNB Clyde. Her crew numbers 18 men. Armament consisted of 3-7,62mm machine guns and a possibility for placing 1-2cm gun
