Naval force nearing Christmas Island was friendly according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 27 February 1942

An item reported that the naval force sighted on 22 February underway to Christmas Island was friendly. The J.I.C. commented that Christmas Island on a distance of 300 miles south of Java, Dutch East Indies was British possessed and of importance for securing the communications.
