Dutch torpedo-bomber and reconnaissance plane Fokker T.VIIIw 1930s


She was designed to be used by the Dutch Naval Aviation for service in Netherlands and in the Dutch East Indies. Her crew numbered 3 men. Dimensions 13 x 5 (height x 18 (wingspan) metres or 42.8’ x 16.6’x 59.1’ and a gross weight of 5.000 kg. She was fitted out with 2-451hp/336kW engines allowing a maximum speed of 285 kilometres, a range of 2.750 kilometres or 1.485 nautical miles and a service ceiling of 6,8 kilometres. The armament consisted of 2-7.92mm machine guns and 600 kg torpedoes or bombs. The production started after the first flight in 1938. They were ordered by Finland but never delivered. Some Dutch planes escaped in May 1940 to England where they became part of the British Royal Air Force. Captured planes served in the German Luftwaffe.
