This Dutch newspaper published a news item dated Gibraltar 28 October and which was a to be trusted list dated 20 September of the navy possessed by the emperor. It’s not strange that this list was published in a Dutch newspaper while our interests in the Levant were quite extended. That’s the same reason ever piece of information dealing with the ‘navies’ of the Barbary States was collected and published. (1)
At Mogador were 1 30-gun frigate with 200 men, 1-24 gun frigate and 1-16 gun chebec with 100 men.
At Salé were 2 new 16-gun frigates each with 120 men and 2 frigates still on stocks.
At Larache 1-6 gun galliot with 30 men and 1 frigate which was to be sold.
At Tangier 3 3-gun demi galleys, each of 36 row and 150 men, 3 3-gun chebecs of 20-30 row and 50-70 men.
At Tetuan 1-16 gun chebec with 100 men, 2-12 gun chebecs and 1 frigate to be sold.
Totally 29 ships.
