The Russian naval base at Revel, Estonia around 1835

The United service magazine of 1836, p. 531 mentioned that at Revel, Estonia was used as a naval base for the Russian navy. The published information is just scarcely but interesting: “There is an arsenal for the navy and dock-yard at this spot, but no vessels larger than brigs and gun-boats are built in it. The fortifications consist of ramparts and bastions, not constructed on any regular plan, and but partially masked, little is left of the covered way, and houses surround it in every quarter.”
