Argentinean torpedo boat destroyers of the Corrientes-class (1896)
This class existed of the Corrientes, Entre Rios, Misiones and the Santa Fé and these vessels were fitted out with a hull of steel and a turtle deck shaped forecastle all built at the British yard of Yarrow in the years 1896-1898. Except for the Santa Fé which was lost in 1897 were all ships stricken around 1925. With a displacement of 249-280 (full load) tons were her dimensions 190’x 19’6”x 7’4” (mean) or 57,9 x 5,94 x 2,23 metres. The two shaft triple expansion and 6 Yarrow water tube boilers supplied 4,200 ihp allowing a maximum) speed of 27 knots (designed was 26 knots during 3 hours) although they suffered large problems in achieving this speed. The engines and boilers were at the waterline protected by a belt thick 0.5-08” steel. The crews numbered 54 men and these vessels were armed with 1-3” gun (fore), 3x1-6pdrs and 3x1-18” torpedo tubes (1xbow,2xaft).
