The new German protected cruisers according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 15 May 1907

The magazine Militär-politische Korrespondenz confirmed an item earlier published by the newspaper Berliner Tageblatt that the new German protected cruisers had a displacement of 19,200 tons and were larger as any cruiser built by foreign navies.(1) The Berliner Tageblatt congratulated the German cabinet with this decision since the sea war in East Asia made clear what happened with ships which were aged.(2) The ships until now build by Germany were mostly experiments and in some respects not better as the ships of Rodzjestwenski.(3) The new German battleship had according to the same newspaper a displacement of 20,000-21,000 tons. The newspaper hoped that that the armour belt was broadened and the top load decreased.
