Japan founded a new navy according to the Dutch newspaper Amigoe di Curacao dated 4 June 1954

An item reported that the Japanese Senate approved two bills dealing with the founding within eight years of a national army, navy and air force. The lower house already approved the bills.(1)

1. The National Diet consists of the lower house called the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors, the latter called by the Dutch newspaper Senate. After the for Japan disastrous Second World War was the Imperial navy dissolved and replaced by the Maritime Safety Agency which became responsible for the minesweeping fleet. In 1952 was within this organisation the Coastal Safety Force founded which take over the maintenance over the minesweepers and other warships handed over by the USA. As a result of the 1954 Self-Defense Forces Law was the Coastal Safety Force separated and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force created.
