A news item dated Batavia 4 December reported that according to tidings received from Pontianak pirates of Dajak fought heavily with a merchant master which wanted with his own means to destroy these pirates and not with help of the Dutch government. He lost the fight with 37 losses on his side although the pirates lost 80 men. When afterwards a large naval force arrived at the scene were the pirates disappeared.
