Spanish naval expedition towards South America according to the Dutch newspaper Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 25 June 1819

According to an item dated Madrid 8 June reported letters from Cadiz that the 18-gun brigantine Néréide which was sent with messages towards Rio Janeiro near her destination was captured by a privateer of the Independents. The squadron which formed the naval part of the expedition consisted of the 4-74 gun ships of the line Numancia, Fernando VII, Espana and Guerrero, the 64-gun Asia, the 60 gun San Julian, 6 frigates of 36-44 guns namely the Mercurio, Ligera, Perla, Viva, Diarra and Pronta, the 26 gun corvettes and 4 brigantines and goelettes of 5-18 guns. On stocks were 31 gunboats, 4 goelettes, 2 brigantines and a 30 gun corvette which were completed before the departure of the expedition.
