Japanese navy strengthened by new warships according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant morning edition dated 29 September 1921

Battleship Kaga was completed as an aircraft carrier

An item dated Tokyo 26 September reported that in 1921 17 new warships were to be commissioned including the super dreadnought Mutsu (1). Further more were to be launched one light cruiser, two destroyers, one gunboat, two guard ships and the 40,000 tons dreadnought Kaga (2).

Notes
1. Of the Nagato-class consisting of the Nagato and the Mutsu, precede by the Ise-class and succeeded by the Tosa-class. Laid down at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal on 1 June 1918, launched on 31 May 1920, commissioned on 24 October 1921 and finally sunk in the Hashirakima fleet anchorage caused by an internal explosion on 8 June 1943.
2. Of the Tosa-class dreadnought battleships, laid down at the Kawasaki Shipyard, Kobe, Japan on 19 July 1920, launched on 17 November 1921 and was to be completed on 25 December 1922. Instead she was converted into an aircraft carrier, commissioned on 31 March 1928, rebuilt 1933-1935 and sunk during the Battle of the Midway against the allied forces on 4 June 1942. .
