Weekly portions on board of the warships of the admiralty of Zeeland in 1730

The admiralty of Zeeland decided on 30 January 1730 to regulate more the expenses of the victuals on board of the ships and to prevent abuse by the commanding officers. When the ships returned the steward was ordered to present his book holding dealing with the food for the crew to the advocaat fiscaal. The latter authority presented his report dealing with the victuals in the period 1726-1728 as a result of the decision of the admiralty dated 24 January 1729.

The weekly portion for each sailor consisted of
Five pound bread, so for 100 men 500 pound
One pound cheese, so for 100 men 100 pound
1½ pound bacon or two pound of meat, so for 100 men 200 pound meat or 150 pound of bacon
1¼ pound hake, so for 100 men125 pound hake
Peas for 100 men weekly 3½ sacks
Grits weekly for 100 men 3½  sack
Butter needed for the hake, peas and grits for 100 men weekly 50 pound butter
Beer for 100 men weekly 7 hogsheads beer

The quantity of the peas and grits which both so-called pot dishes (cooking food) was based on buying en not actually feeding.
