British government seized the Megantic to be used as troop transport according to the Dutch newspaper Middellburgsche Courant dated 22 January 1927
An item dated London 22 January reported that the British Cabinet seized the Megantic (1) of the White Star Company with a displacement of nearly 15,000 tons. She was to be used as troop transport towards China.

Launched at the yard of Harland and Wolff, Belfast, Ireland with yard number 399 on 10 December 1908, her maiden voyage started on 17 June a year later, in July 1931 decommissioned and two years later sold to be broken up. Wih a gross tonnage of 14,878 tons and a net tonnage of 9,183 tons, a displacement of 20,470 long tons/20,800 tons were her dimensions 167,8 x 20,5 x 8,38 metres or 550.4 x 67.3 x 27’6”. Speed 16,5 knots. Originally ordered as Albany for the Dominion Line steamship company.
