Indonesian destroyer Gadjah Mada wit success repaired according to the Dutch newspaper Amigoe di Curacao dated 9 November 1951

An item reported that trials of the flagship of the Indonesian navy the Gadja Mada which was the former Dutch destroyer Hr.Ms. Tjerk Hiddes were successful. Begin 1951 she was grounded and seriously damaged but repaired at Surabaya during more as four months, costs 1.000.000 roepias.(1)

1. The Dutch newspaper Het nieuwsblad voor Sumatra dated 10 February 1951 reported that she was to hand over to the Indonesian become a flagship of the Indonesian navy. Her commanding officer was major Martadinata who earlier commanded the corvette Hang Tuah. This corvette was the former Australian ocean minesweeper Ipswich launched on 11 August 1941 handed over to the Royal Netherlands Navy where she was renamed Morotai and on 28 December 1949 handed over to Indonesia. The Gadjah Mada was on 22 May 1940 laid down at the shipyard of Wm, Denny&Bros. Ltd. At Dumbarton as the British HMS Nonpareil, launched on 25 June a year later and completed on 30 October 1942. In 1941 she was purchased by the Royal Netherlands navy where she became the Hr.Ms. Tjerk Hiddes and on 1 March 1951 handed over to Indonesia. With a displacement of 1,760 (standard)-2,540 (full load) and as dimensions 348 (between perpendiculars)-356½ (over all) x 35 2/3 x 9 feet. Her armament consisted of 6-4.7” guns, 4-4cm anti aircraft guns, 62cm anti aircraft guns and 10-21” torpedo tubes.
