British floating mines created Monster of Loch Ness according to the Dutch newspaper De Locomotief dated 18 November 1950
An item reported that the Royal British Navy explained what the famous Monster of Loch Ness was. In 1918 was the navy experimenting and laid 300 unloaded mines in the lake. When the experiments ended were a hundred mines left behind. In 1930 was the monster first seen and directly a touristic event. What happened in fact was that the fittings of the mines loosened and one after the one appeared the now green-clad fitted out with four nipples mine at the surface. After being filled with water they sunk again. There were still another forty mines in the lake and so in the next touristic season could the monster expected to show up some times. The whole affair was within the navy top secret.
