British steamship Polypemus sold to the Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Rotterdamsch Nieuwsblad dated 30 September 1898

An item dated Amsterdam 29 September reported that the British steamship Polyphemus which arrived that coming from Java, Dutch East Indies was sold to the Dutch shipping company Stoomvaartmaatschappij ‘Oceaan’.(1) She was to depart on 4 October via Liverpool to Java again. She measured 2,871 gross tons and was build in 1890 at the shipyard of Scott&Co., Greenock. Her former owner was the Ocean Steamship Company of Liverpool.

1. The Lijst van de Nederlandsche Oorlogs- en Koopvaardijschepen met hunne onderscheidingsseinen etc. dated from 1 April 1899 mentioned her with as homeport Amsterdam and a net cargo capacity of 5.161,50 cubic metres or 1.822,01 tons of 2,83 cubic metres and call sign PQKJ.
