An item reported that a day earlier at the auction at Alkmaar nine condemned minesweepers were sold which were former German so-called schnellboote. They were bought by the (dump company M. Caransa&Co. of Amterdam for 378,969 Dutch guilders and to be broken up. Among the aspirant buyers were several who intended to rebuilt a former minesweeper as a floating house but they offered not enough. A club of students offered 500 Dutch guilders for one boat to convert it into a local club. A student of Vlaardingen offered 150 Dutch guilders and a youngster of Den Helder wrote that if there was one boat left he wanted to buy it for ƒ23,75. The maximum prize offered for a single minesweeper was ƒ 42.500.
