France fitting out warships destined for China according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 17 February 1858

Tidings from Toulon dated 20 December 1857 reported that all efforts were done to complete the armament of the ships with China as destination and which were around 25 December expected to be ready and to depart for Hong Kong. This three ships were the steam corvette Laplace, gunboat 1st class l’Alarme and the transport Gironde.
