For the she shipyard Conrad of Th. Figee was 1886 a very busy year with building around 10 vessels for France, Donau, South America and so on. Her owner said that the transport of the assembled vessels was again via Antwerp while there were none Dutch ships for this destinations. The Black Sea and South America trade shipping was almost completely transferred to Antwerp. The yard received now an order to build a sand suction dredger for Japan with as dimensions 40 x 8,60 metres and a draught of 3,25 metres and 300 hp. She would be too large to pass the Spaarndam lock and her draught was too large to go via Gouda-Rotterdam towards sea. If the order was accepted the yard would be obliged the dredger outside Haarlem. The necessity to enlarge the lock became for Haarlem more and more important is she wanted to attract more industry.
