The Argentinean newspaper El Diario dated 17 January published an item dealing with the dredger 209C build by the yard Conrad at Haarlem, Nethrlands. She arrived that morning in the dry dock of the northern harbour of Buenos Ayres. The minister of public works visited around 18.00 o’clock the dredger and invited the president to do the same. Engineer Juan P. Bredius informed all visitors. During her voyage from Haarlem towards Buenos Ayres was the medium speed 9 knots. The four engines with a total horsepower of 2,110 hp drive 2 screws. Two engines were for the propulsion the other two for the dredging activities. She was fitted out with 2 large suction pipes, on each side one. Contracted was an guaranteed suction capacity 0f 3,600 M3 each hour, during the trials in Holland was the capacity found to be 14,000M3. The department of public works claimed that the building costs of around 80,000 pound sterling within 10 months could be earned thanks to the fact that with a usual dredger the costs for one M3 were 20 centavos and with dredgers just 5 centavos.(1)
