Australian government ships were sold according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 14 May 1925

An item dated Bordeaux 13 May reported that the Shipping Board of the Australian Commonwealth at Sydney eleven ships sold of which seven to Japan. The newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 2 May published an item dated Melbourne 1 May reporting that the Australian cabinet decided to sell 28 ships of her merchant fleet asking tenders for 1 June.

A year earlier reported the newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 15 December 1924 that chairman Lord Inchape (1) on a meeting of the P&O Steamship stated that the Australian Shipping Board did not consider to sell her ships neither was there a annual loss of 1.000.000 pound sterling.

The newspaper Het Vaderland dated 11 November 1927 reported that the Australian parliament at Canberra the 10th decided to sell the 54 ships of the Commonwealth Steamshipping Line with 21 against 17 votes.
