Dutch bark ship Jan Pieterszoon Coen homeward bound according to the Dutch newspaper Javasche Courant dated 2 September 1840

An item reported that the fast bark ship Jan Pieterszoon Coen captain P. van Duyvenbooden was to depart Batavia end September towards the Netherlands. On board was a skilled doctor. For more details could be asked at the captain in Surabaya or B. Kopersmit&Co. in Batavia.(1)

1. The website http://www.scheepsindex.nl/schip.php?i=436 reports that she was built at the shipyard of Cornelis&Jan Smit in Alblasserdam in 1837 and sold in 1860 in the Dutch East Indies. The newspaper Dagblad van ‘s Gravenhage dated Monday 18 December 1837 reported that the Thursday before at the shipyard in Amsterdam the bark ship Jan Pieterszoon Koen of circa 400 last was launched by shipbuilder Corn. Smit for Boissevain&Co. in Amsterdam and captain P. van Duyvenbooden.
