Dutch frigate Barend Willem launched at Amsterdam, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Dagblad van ‘s-Gravenhage dated Friday 3 April 1840

An item reported that last Tuesday afternoon at the shipyard de Walvisch in the Groote Bikkerstraat, Amsterdam by shipbuilder Jan Nuveen the keel was laid down of the Dutch frigate ship Barend Willem for B.W. van Straten for the Dutch East Indies trade.(1)

1. Barend Willem van Starckenborg van Straten (22 February 1804 Amsterdam-25 August 1846 Bad Homburg von der Höhe, Darmstardt, Hesse, Germany) married at Batavia on 14 August 1825 with Theodora Mechtilde ten Cate (28 May 1801 Oudendijk-14 December 1864 Amsterdam). Her sister was married with Jan Bonn ship owner in the Dutch East Indies trade and after his death with captain Maarten Christoffel/Marten Christopher Löschen.
