Dutch nuclear merchant submarines possible in the future according to the Dutch newspaper De Tijd dated 2 December 1968

An item reported that Mr. G. Vermeulen member of the board of the Dutch shipping company Koninklijke Nederlandse Stoombootmaatschappij during his speech in Rotterdam a day earlier for merchant marine officers stated that merchant nuclear submarines were possible. However the nuclear propulsion was able to delay the development such a submarine. Nucleair propulsion for surfaced ships was in his opinion only economical profitable in very large ships. Ir. A. van der Toorn board member of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Reerdersvereniging agreed with him that only very large constructions could be make profitable. Within 8-10 years was nuclear propulsion in the merchant marine a reality.
