Austria using floating batteries against Piëmont according to the Dutch newspaper Schager Courant dated 30 June 1859

An item reported that according to rumours admiral Bouet Willaumez arrived with the floating batteries arrived off Venice. This batteries could be of large importance while the area of the notorious quadrangle could be inundated and the Austrian forces become able to use these weapons against Piëmont.(1)

1. Piedmont tired to gain her independency form the Austrian empire and in 1859 defeated with French aid Austria at Solferino. Piedmont belonged to the House of Savoy and was part of the Kingdom Sardinia-Piedmont. This house delivered later the kings of Italy.
