An item reported that according to Italian newspapers dated 25 February the torpedo plant of Whitehead in Fiume was taken in use again although now complete Italian property. Owners were engineer Giuseppe Orlando (1), the shipyard Carnaro at Fiume Carnaro, the Banco Nazionale di Credito and commendatore Arturo Ciano (2). The firm was baptized la Società di esercizio del Silurificio. Director was chef engineer Carl Hassenteufel with of the old staff still engineer Lirussi working. The Administration Board consisted of engineer Giuseppe Orlando as president and furthermore Luigo Orlando (3) , commendatore Arturo Ciano, general Guiseppe Pennella, admiral Francesco Accimi and lawyer Giorgio Avallone. The spouse of general Giardino, governor of Fiume christened the first launching. Guiseppe Orlando was called a men with energy and experience and who built 15 years before at his yard at Livorno the Greek armoured cruiser Averoff. The former Whitehead plant manufactured in 1922 a new long distance torpedo but was in December forced to ask for a bankruptcy. The torpedo and drawings however disappeared but apparently had men been successful in reproducing the drawings.
