French submarine cruiser Surcouf kept in reserve according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1934 no. 4


An item referred to the magazine N.M.R. dated 29 March 1934 reported that this submarine cruiser with a displacement of 3.260-4.730 ton and which could carry with her 36 torpedoes was kept in reserve at Cherbourg after her trial of 4.000 miles.(1) She was now to be transferred to Brest and to depart in June for a voyage of 15.000 miles to show the French flag in African and North and South American ports. Her range was 10.000 miles with a speed of 10 knots. Another magazine the Le Yacht dated 31 March 1934 reported that she had dived to as depth of 80 metres.

Her building was ordered in December 1927, launched on 18 October 1929, commissioned in May 1934 and sunk on 18 February 1942 around 70 nautical miles north of Christóbal and actually stricken of the navy list on 6 December a year later.
